Responsible care is the global chemical Industry, s voluntary safely health and environmental   protection initiative launched in 1994 by the Canadian chemical produces Association. The initiative soon adopted by the American Chemistry Council “ACC” The United Kingdom, Australia & New Zealand. Responsible care Sri Lanka was established in 2012 following 2 years of RCLG support & monitoring. Responsible care initiative continues to enhance our Industries credibility with the public. 

Member companies need to effectively manage there product and operations to avoid having people and our environment this is important because 

  • A robust management system is required by industry & government to  access ESH performance and implemental improvements 
  • Businesses can bench marks SH&E performance against world class performance and role models
  • Industry demonstrates to stakeholders that it is a responsible employees and a guidelines of the environment the demonstrating our commitment to sustainability

National responsible care initiatives enable multinational & local member companies to demonstrate with local regulations. The local responsible care council will monitor and measure compliance and advice the appropriate remedial action. Compliance together with a process of continuous improvement, elimination and minimize workplace hazards, manages the risk and protect life, property and the environment reducing the risk of prosecution while adding value to the member’s operations contribution to sustainability.

Responsible care companies are encouraged to implement a comprehensive product stewardship program which looks after their products from their creation to safe disposal.  Life Cycle Management includes helping customers safely use the products by providing clear product information, safe handling advice including storage, segregation, protective clothing and emergency management.

 

Handling chemical suppliers are signatories of the ICCA Global Product strategy which requires a comprehensive product stewardship initiative.

Yes, the responsible care initiative encourages the integration of recognized quality management systems where the local association is able to offer a Third Party assessment capability, the verification of ISO and similar global quality assurance programs can be included.

To complement existing LRCC products and services, multinational companies operating in Sri Lanka, together with the ICCA Responsible Car working groups  can assist with capacity building.  This may include expert speakers for local workshops, the exchange of information, including case studies and the opportunity to participate in regular meetings involving 56 national associations.
